Today RSPCA issued a press release that claims 1000 puppies are trafficked each week from Irish Ports to Wales. I have spoken with their press office to verify how they extrapolated this figure and disturbingly it could actually be an underestimation as they have not included ports to Scotland.
This figure is the result of an undercover monitoring of the Irish ports over 6 years. Based on the travel activity of known suspected puppy farmers they were able to extrapolate this figure. Known genuine transport of rescue dogs and puppies from Ireland to the UK are not included in this figure.
With the Breeding Establishment Recommendations still waiting to be en-acted this latest statistic brings home the reality of the situation with regard to Puppy Farming.

It’s time the government took responsibility and implemented the recommendations
